Major Talks
| A number of people have asked for a
copy of my 2003 matriculation address, so here is a link. Faculty Address at the Fall 2003 Engineering Orientation | |
| In Fall 2003, I traveled to Korea with Bruce Alberts (who at the time was President of the National Academy of Sciences) at the invitation of the Korean Ministry of Technology. Here is the talk on engineering education that I gave at the Korean Academy of Science and Technology. |

Weaving
I weave in a traditional weft-faced Rio Grande style, using primarily Churro wool. There are some great examples at the Millicent Rogers Museum in Taos. I learned to weave reading Rachel Brown's wonderful book on weaving, and studied at the Taos Institute of the Arts, which sadly, has closed. My teacher, Rose Vigil, is still teaching and weaving. You can visit her shop, Los Vigiles Living Traditions, in Chimayo, NM. I also learned a lot from the weavers at Tierra Wools in Los Ojos, NM, who graciously let me watch them weave and dye, and patiently answered my many questions. Weaving Southwest, owned by Rachael Brown and located in Taos, is an excellent supplier of wool, and their gallery of textiles is inspiring. Locally, Schacht Looms are made in Boulder. The folks at Schacht were also very patient, and let me study their looms so I could design and build my own. Shuttles, Spindles and Skeins in Boulder is a great provider of supplies and wool other than Churro, and is also staffed by really friendly folks. Maybe Ghandi was right about spinning and weaving.
