"get out the vote" in the Engineering Center Lobby during E-Days.
Student Government Elections
Results of student government elections in April, as reported by the
Colorado Daily include the following items related to engineering:
Eli Grun was elected president of the
University
of Colorado Engineering Council, and Ashley Moore and Robby Trumble
were elected the new UCEC vice presidents. Megan Christen, Stuart
Collins, Lindsay Marek, Andrew Mohler, Mohammed Said, Nick Sandoval and
Carl Wiedermann were elected UCEC representatives, and Eric Frydendall and
Caleb Weiss were elected UCEC senators.
Students passed 10 of the 11 referenda on the ballot, which will
increase student fees by $6.40 per year to support new measures, clubs and
rules. The following two referenda were of particular interest to the
engineering community:
l
Engineers Without Borders will fund students who build projects for
developing communities. Fee hike: $.45 a semester.
l
Solar Decathlon/CURE Club will help CU stay as a leader in solar
energy and energy efficient products. Fee hike: $.45 a semester.

Technology Transfer News
Associate Dean for Research
Stein Sture
received the Boulder Administrator Award at the second annual Boulder
Technology Transfer Awards ceremony on April 12. The award recognizes his
efforts to foster collaboration between engineering researchers and the
Technology Transfer Office. The Boulder Student Award went to the
electrical engineering Capstone Design Team "Aqualung" for its work on a
dual-use visualization bronchioscope and laryngoscope. Team members
include Robin Elliot, Greg Newcomb, Freddie Oteromatos, and Minhaz Ali.
According to the Technology Transfer Office, slightly more than half of
the Boulder campus invention disclosures originate in the College of
Engineering and Applied Science. All of the college’s major disciplines
are represented.
CU
recently licensed a diagnostic decision support system to Cardiac Access
LLC, a start-up company that combines technology discovered by a research
team led by Roop Mahajan of mechanical engineering with the needs of
pediatric cardiologists at CU’s Health Sciences Center and the Children’s
Hospital. Incorporating an artificial neural network that has been trained
with data obtained on pediatric patients, the system will enable a doctor
or nurse to quickly and accurately diagnose suspected heart murmurs at the
point-of-care with a digital stethoscope.
