Faculty Chair Summer Conferences
About 1,000 people attended the U.S. National Congress of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics at the CU-Boulder Engineering Center June 25 to 30. The event, which was co-chaired by Thomas Geers of ME and Stein Sture of CEAE, focused on mechanics in emerging technologies including biomechanics, nanomechanics, and mechanics research for national defense and energy independence. The congress is held on four-year intervals and was last hosted by Virginia Tech.

Coming up July 31-Aug. 4 will be the IEEE International Geoscience & Remote Sensing Symposium, co-chaired by Albin Gasiewski of ECE. The event, which is expected to draw up to 2,000 participants, will be held at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver. The meeting’s theme is “Remote Sensing—A Natural Global Partnership,” reflecting the increasing interconnected nature of understanding and managing the global environment. The annual conference has not been held in the continental U.S. since 1998.

Libraries Expand Web of Science
The University Libraries is pleased to announce that we have expanded access to the back files of Web of Science and added new content.  As of July 1, the Libraries’ subscription to Web of Science includes the following files:

l Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-EXPANDED)--1965-present

l Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI)--1965-present

l Arts & Humanities Citation Index (A&HCI)--1975-present

This purchase was made possible by a one-time infusion of dollars to the Libraries’ budget during the 2005/2006 fiscal year.  Web of Science is linked from the Libraries’ “Find Articles and More” page at http://ucblibraries.colorado.

Suit Yourself Seeks Donations
Are you planning to clean out your closet this summer? The “Suit Yourself” program is seeking donations of gently worn business attire to help CU-Boulder students dress appropriately for their job interviews. “Suit Yourself” is a joint program of Career Services, the Multicultural Business Students Association, and the Multicultural Engineering Program.

Donations of professional work attire will be accepted now through Sept. 25 at Career Services (Willard Hall, garden level) or Revolution Cleaners, 4680 N. Broadway, Boulder. You may also contact Ann Herrmann at 492-8020 or ann.herrmann@colorado.edu to arrange for donated items to be picked up. Suits, jackets, shirts, pants, skirts, ties, and handbags will all be accepted. Clothing items will be displayed and sold to students at bargain prices (full suits will be priced at just $15) before the Fall Career Fair.
