Community Outreach
The College of Engineering and Applied Science offers a variety of
hands-on engineering workshops to elementary, middle and high school
students; as well as teaching support for K-12 teachers to assist them
in bringing science and engineering concepts into their classrooms.
These programs are designed to foster the interest of young children
by making science and technology fun and relevant to their world, and
to encourage students to continue their study of math and science to
prepare them for later college admission and the career opportunities
that lie beyond.
The college also serves as a resource on engineering and technical
issues for the general community,
offering public lectures and symposiums, library resources, and
community service through research and education projects by individual
faculty and students.
Engineering outreach resources include:
- Integrated Teaching & Learning
Laboratory - Designated as a Program of Excellence
by the Colorado Commission on Higher Education, the ITL
Laboratory runs an extensive program of hands-on workshops
for K-12 students and teachers, faculty and the general
public. Initiatives include development of the Teach Engineering
Digital Library, creation of the Engineering Outreach Corps
in K-12 classrooms, the Girls Embrace Technology internship,
and other programs.
