International Engineering Certificate in Italian
The following information is a guideline for students seeking
to earn an International Engineering Certificate in Italian.

The Colosseum, Rome |
Italian Requirements (5 courses 15- credit
hours, 6 upper-division)
Language
Courses (Lower Division- 9 hours)
-
ITAL 2110, ITAL 2120, ITAL 2130 are
required. (Due to the nature of the engineering curriculum, ITAL 2120 &
ITAL 2130 will have to be taken in separate semesters.)

Placement in language courses will be
determined by the Language Coordinator Ms. Priscilla Craven. Courses
that repeat a student’s prior knowledge of Italian will not apply to
this certificate. Students who come in with advanced Italian language
credit should consult with the Director of Undergraduate Studies for
course substitution.
Additional
Italian Courses (Upper Division- 6 hours)
-
Students must take either ITAL 3010 or ITAL
3030.

An additional 3 hours may be taken from the
following courses: ITAL 3010 Advanced Conversation and Composition I,
ITAL 3020 Advanced Conversation & Composition II, ITAL 3030- Storia
dell’arte: Advanced Composition /Conversation 2 , ITAL 3140- Readings in
Italian Literature- 20th Century, ITAL 3160- Readings in
Italian Literature- Medieval/Renaissance, ITAL 4010- Problems in
Translation, Advanced Grammar, and Stylistics, ITAL 4030- Contemporary
Italian Culture, Politics and the Media, ITAL 4040-Business Italian.

Optional Course- ITAL 4930- Languages
Internship for the Professions or GEEN 3930- International Co-Op is open
to students who have junior or senior standing and have completed ITAL
3010 or ITAL 3030 with a B- or better. This course may be applied to
Engineering or Italian credit. See the Italian faculty member listed in
the course catalogue for ITAL 4930. For GEEN 3930, see Sherry Snyder,
the Director of Student Programs in Engineering , at least 4 months
prior to obtain approval.

Study Abroad: Italian credit earned at a CU
Study Abroad-approved program in Italy can be accepted as Italian credit
without credit limitation. A maximum of 6 credit hours may be
transferred from other universities or non-CU Programs.

Transfer Credit: 6 credit hours may be
transferred in from other institutions.
Engineering Requirements

Certificate students must complete all
requirements for their respective majors.

Students should make sure that all the
Italian courses they take fulfill the requirements for the
humanities/social sciences in their major degree programs.

Students will take WRTG 3030, HUEN 3100 and
HUEN 3200, GEEN 3000 or an approved alternate course to fulfill their
upper division writing requirement.

Certificate students will complete GEEN
1400 or GEEN 3400, Engineering projects courses or an alternate course
approved by their major department.

If offered, complete a 1 credit hour
seminar in International Engineering.
Upon completion of requirements:
A certificate of advising form should be completed
and signed by the student and the engineering advisor and turned into the
director of student programs in the College of Engineering and Applied
Science at least one month prior to graduation.
